We've re-engineered the CoB,O to make it easier and more enjoyable for us (and hopefully you) to visit the site. For awhile, both the old and new pages will run simultaneously, however the "old style" CoB,O won't be updated. Eventually the "old style" will disappear...

You can visit the new CoB,O at http://www.cobo.org/index.php

When is Jimmy coming to my area? When do tickets go onsale?

Jimmy normally tours the eastern U.S. from June-August, swinging out to the western U.S. in September-October, and then hits Florida, Nashville, and other favorite areas in February. For the latest tour information including onsale dates see Tour Central.

How can I keep up with the latest news on Jimmy, like when his new album is going to be released and when he will be on TV next as well as other projects like books and movies?

The CoB,O offers the latest news on Jimmy. It is updated almost daily, with a special Dates To Know section and other specials. This is the premiere source for up-to-date information, often scooping Margaritaville and other web sites.

The Jamaican Incident or how "Jamaica Mistaica" came about

From USA Today, Life section, Page 2D: (January 18, 1996)
POLICE WING BUFFETT'S PLANE
Jimmy Buffett was almost wasted in Margaritaville (as the song goes) Tuesday when Jamaican police opened fire on his seaplane. Buffett, U2's Bono and Island Records chairman Chris Blackwell had jumped into Montego Bay after the plan, named The Flying Boat, landed. Blackwell was hosting them at his Jamaican estate. Responding to an anonymous call that an aircraft had landed carrying drugs, police opened fire as the plane took off, Jamaican police commissioner Trevor MacMillan said Wednesday. No one was hurt and no drugs were found, he said. Bullets pierced the aircraft. Buffett was not available for comment; Blackwell said he was "pleased" authorities made ? a quick public apology." Jimmy Buffett's Restaurants

There is a Margaritaville Cafe, owned by Jimmy, in both Key West, New Orleans, and at CityWalk (Universal Studios), Orlando, FL. There is a Margaritaville store in Charleston, SC. Various rumored locations for new restaurants have involved Cincinnati, Nassau, and other locations. He used to own a restaurant on the island of St. Barts, but it burned down due to a grease fire. Jimmy has no connection with other restaurants with the names "Margaritaville" or "Cheeseburger in Paradise."

Origination of the term parrot head

Reputedly, when performing at Timberwolf Ampitheater in Kings Island, OH, Jimmy commented on all those crazy folks in the crowd from the Cincinnati area wearing hawaiian shirts and parrot hats and who keep coming back to every show. "Just like deadheads," Jimmy commented. Coral Reefer Timothy B. Schmit replied, "yea, Parrot Heads!"

Jimmy Buffett's E-mail Address

Jimmy has a Compuserve account and does sometimes drop into the Florida Forum there. However, he has not made his e-mail address publicly available for obvious reasons (and you thought your mailbox filled up quickly!). Please don't email us asking for it; we're not going to give it to you. Neither will will "forward" information to him. Try emailing info@margaritaville.com.

Did Jimmy Ever Pay the Mini Mart Back?

In the song "Peanut Butter Conspiracy," Jimmy claims that if he ever got rich, he would pay the mini mart back. Well, when asked if he ever did, Buffett replied that he thought about it. He even made it as far as the parking lot, but he could never work up the nerve to actually go in and pay them back. Besides, he adds: "The statute of limitations has run out."

Where Can I Find "Please Take Your Drunken 15 Year Old Girlfriend Home?"

This song was originally recorded for the album Havana Daydreamin'. However, it was cut from the album before its release. Your best bet is to seek a copy from a very serious collector, or download it From The Vault.

Jimmy's Baseball Teams

Jimmy is a minority owner of The Madison Black Wolf, which is part of the Independent Northern League. Jimmy, Bill Murray and Mike Veeck (the son of Bill Veeck) own the Ft. Myers Miracles (Class A). Murray & Buffett are among the "extremely" silent partners in the Charleston Riverdogs (South Atlantic League, single A).

Is Jimmy related to Warren or William Buffett?

Jimmy is supposedly a distant cousin of Warren Buffett (multi-billionaire investor) and affectionately calls him "Uncle Warren" when seeking financial advice. William Buffett paints tropical pastels... as far as I've heard Jimmy and William are not related.

Who is Marvin Gardens?

Good ol' Marvin Gardens is the patron saint of The Church of Buffett, Orthodox. The Marvin Gardens WWW Homepage has most of the answers you're looking for.

Where did Jimmy drink the margarita that inspired him to write "Margaritaville?"

The margarita that inspired "Margaritaville" was from Austin, Texas:

"I wrote "Margaritaville" in about five minutes at the end of a tour after having a margarita," Buffett said. "It wasn't even a great margarita." [The Houston Post, September 18, 1994]

Where did Jimmy eat his "Cheeseburger In Paradise"?

Margaritaville has the definitive answer on this: Tortola.

Where can I find all those repeated threads like license plate ideas and pet names?

Brian Bilenki maintains a license plate names page. I don't know of any pet names page currently on the web...

Where did Jimmy get the name A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean?

From an old Marty Robins title "A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation."

What's the deal with "God's Own Drunk?"

Lord Richard Buckley was the original author of "God's Own Drunk." Lord Buckley's son who managed the estate after Lord Buckley died sued Buffett over the use of "God's Own Drunk" claiming that Buffett had not paid for the rights and even more, had recorded a perverse version ofGod's Own Drunk. They got an injunction against Buffett which prevented him from performing the song until the lawsuit was settled or resolved. So, in 1986 when Buffett would get to the part of his show where he would normally perform "God's Own Drunk," he would say that he still isn't allowed to play it because of the lawsuit and instead played a song he wrote called "The Lawyer and the Asshole" in which he accuses Buckley's son and lawyers as being greedy and tells them to kiss his ass. You can download the entire song From The Vault. Thanks to Scott Henderson for the quick synopsis

Who is Bob Robert's Society Band?

An outgrowth of a group Bob Roberts led in his native Indiana, it has been in Palm Beach County for 15 years, playing Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and the like. The band performs every Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Boynton Beach Civic Center at 128 E. Ocean Ave., Boynton Beach, FL. The song was the result of a visit JB paid to hear the band when it played a couple of years ago at a local orange grove. Thanks to Drew Warren

What does "16 down and 1 to go" mean?

Found in the Floridays liner notes, Jimmy was counting the number of albums left on his MCA contract. He then hopped over to Island Records.

Where can I find "Southern Cross?"

You can find the original version of "Southern Cross" on Crosby, Stills, & Nash's Daylight Again album. Jimmy has never released a studio version of his cover, although it has become a concert standard. It is on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

How has Jimmy's songwriting methods changed over the years?

Almost everyone will acknowledge that Jimmy's style of music has changed over the past 30 years. What few people realize is that the type of song writing has also changed. This table and chart outline how Jimmy has collaborated with others more and more since his early days.
