Section 1. Biographical information


1. What is Jimmy's full name?

James William Buffett

2. When and where was Jimmy born?

December 25, 1946 in Pascagoula, Mississippi

3. Where does he live?

Jimmy currently lives in Nashville, TN although he also has residences in Colorado and Florida (among others).

4. Is he married?

Yes. Jimmy married Jane Slagsvol on August 27, 1977. Jimmy and his wife recently reunited after a 9 year separation.

5. Does he have children?

Yes, he has two daughters. Savannah Jane (b. 6/80) and Sarah Delaney (b. 6/92).

6. Where did he go to college?

He attended Auburn University but received his B.S. in history from the University of So. Mississippi in 1969.

7. What are some of his other interests?

Jimmy is an avid pilot, longtime sailor and an environmentalist. He is chairman of the Save the Manatee club and founder of Friends of Florida, which works for the preservation of Florida's unique environment. He is also involved in Greenpeace and the Cousteau Society.

1. What language are the words at the beginning of the song "One Particular Harbor" in and what do they mean?

The words are Tahitian and translate as follows:

      Ia oro te natura
      E mea arofa teie ao nei
      Ua oau te maitai no te fenua
      Te vai noa ra te ora o te mitie

      Nature lives (Life To Nature)
      Have pity of the earth (Love The Earth)
      The bounty of the land is exhausted
      But there is still abundance in the sea.

2. What is a 'snuff queen'?

An old term for a prostitute.

2. Where did the term "parrothead" come from?

Once, when performing at Timberwolf Ampitheatre at Kings Island in Ohio, Jimmy commented on all those crazy folks in the crowd from the Cincinnati area wearing Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats and who keep coming back to every show. "Just like DeadHeads," Jimmy commented. Coral-Reefer Timothy B. Schmidt (who also played Bass for the Eagles between stints with the Coral-Reefer Band) replied, "yea, ParrotHeads!"

4. Is Greg "Fingers" Taylor related to James Taylor?

No.


Section 3. What every parrothead should know


1. How do I avoid incurring the wrath of hundreds of angry parrotheads when I am writing/posting something about Jimmy?

Spell his name correctly!! There are two 'T's in B-U-F-F-E-T-T

2. Who is Gardner McKay?

Gardner McKay starred as Adam Troy in the 1959-1962 TV series "Adventures in Paradise" about a guy, a gal, a bar and a boat (the Leaky Tiki).

3. Who are the Coral Reefers (past and present)?

The Coral Reefer Band is Jimmy's backup band. Members include:

Michael Utley - keyboards
Greg "Fingers" Taylor - harmonica
Robert Greenidge - steel drums
Savannah Jane Buffett - vocals (occasionally)

Past members have included Timothy B. Schmidt (bassist for the Eagles) and Steve Goodman.

4. How do I make the perfect margarita?

The Road to the Perfect Margarita

    Our journey starts...
  1. Fill shaker with broken cubed ice.
  2. Squeeze TWO fresh lime wedges into shaker.
  3. Savor the fresh lime aroma (AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!)
  4. Add 2 oz. Cuervo 1800.
  5. Sniff the cork.
  6. Add 1/2 oz. of Jose Cuervo White if ya wish (white for bite!).
  7. Add 1-1/4 oz. of Roses Lime Juice (accept no substitutes!).
  8. Add 1/2 oz. of Bols Triple Sec (nothing but the best!).
  9. Add "a splash" of Bols Orange Curaco (shh... secret ingredient).
  10. Cover shaker tightly!
  11. Shake vigorously.
  12. Flip shaker in midair twice (three times if you're a pro).
  13. Uncover shaker and savor the flavor!
  14. Rim glass with Lime peel (outside only!).
  15. Salt the outside only.
  16. Add fresh ice.
  17. Strain mixture over ice.
  18. Squeeze in 1 lime wedge and toss rind over left shoulder.
  19. Now kick back, turn up the tunes and enjoy!

Jimmy has a periodic newsletter called "The Coconut Telegraph" which contains articles about Jimmy, his current activities, tour information, etc. It also contains Margaritaville merchandise (shirts, cups, hats, etc.) that can be ordered.
