Jimmy and the CRB start rehearsals for this summer's tour on June 8. [Thanks to David Hughes]

Tom Liddle has put the Star-Ledger review of the Madison Square Garden show on his web site.

February 27

Elmopalooza on video? Could be. Remember, the release date for the CD is April 14. [Thanks to Dave Pittman]

Jimmy is on the guest list for former Cubs announcer Harry Caray's funeral. [Thanks to Lydia]

The second part of Jimmy's 8th report from Cuba on the Pope's visit is at the Coconut Telegraph. The edited article appears in the latest issue of Rolling Stone (February 27).

I added automatic e-mail notification service to the Tour Dates page. Now by signing up for this free service from the C0B,O and URL-Minder you can be automatically notified via e-mail whenever I update the Tour Dates. To sign up go to the Tour Dates page and fill in the form-it looks just like the one on this page. If you haven't signed up to be notified when the News page changes do that now too! It's cool and it's free!

More information on the Martin Signature JB guitar mentioned in yesterday's news: originally the grand prize to last year's Stump El Bando contest was to be one of these guitars. For some reason that never materialized and instead the New Year's Eve trip to Margaritaville-Key West was given to the thief who stole my prize, er I mean the winner (sorry Nancy!). [Thanks to Drew Warren]

On a related note, if every reader just donated a dollar to me I would easily be able to afford the $3650 sticker price on those Martin signatures. Nah, never mind ;-)

February 25

C. F. Martin & Co. is going to produce a limited edition Jimmy Buffett signature model (HD-18JB Jimmy Buffett Limited Edition Signature Model) later this year, with some proceeds going to charity, The W. O. Smith Nashville Community Music School (perhaps of the Parakeets Sing album). Only 424 of these guitars will be made. Martin is taking orders immediately; however don't expect to see this guitar in music stores until late summer. [Thanks to Marty Warble]

Tour dates have been updated.

The title of the new album due out on April 28 is reportedly Carnival. Once again it is Jimmy and the CRB doing songs from the musical Don't Stop The Carnival.

February 24

Jimmy and his family are reportedly spending the next month abroad. No word on where exactly. [Thanks to Big Dog]

February 23

Seems that a soundtrack to Elmopalooza is in the works, to be released on April 14. Is it worth buying for Kermit and Jimmy singing "Caribbean Amphibian?" You be the judge.

February 22

AOL's Parrot Key reports that the summer tour will start June 17, have 3 daytime shows, and 3 shows for Great Woods. I'm not adding this to the tour page because I don't know their sources-I try to confirm as much information on the tour page as possible, and I can't confirm the above, much less believe the tour won't start until June 17. So I included it for your gossip pleasure, but I wouldn't plan vacations around the above information, especially since no solid dates have been announced. Rest assured that the CoB,O will have the tour dates and ticket on-sale dates in plenty of time for you to get seats, or at least plan to get them! Remember, if you hear of solid concert dates announced in your town, email me so all can know, and join in the feeding frenzy of ticket buying.

Random Buffett sighting: According to the Lowcountry Lowdown section of the Post and Courier newspaper out of Charleston, SC, Buffett was in town at Union Hall last Sunday night, February 15, 1998. [Thanks to GSPANGLER@InfoAve.Net]

Last night at the Nicolette Larson tribute, Jimmy sang "Margaritaville," "If The Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me" (requested by Graham Nash), "Brown Eyed Girl," and finally "Treetop Flier" (with original author Stephen Stills). It'd be nice if Jimmy threw those two unusual songs into this summer's playlist. [Thanks to Nellie Carlen]

February 21

The first part of Jimmy's 8th report from Cuba on the Pope's visit is at the Coconut Telegraph. The edited article will appear in Rolling Stone on February 27.

I normally don't plug other Buffett sites, but once in awhile someone puts in a lot of time and effort so others can enjoy things they might normally not. LADI3/4T's Island has 11 years worth of RealAudio clips from Michigan shows, plus some other good stuff that saves me from putting it in the Vault. Go wander around his pages and thank him for doing something creative for others. In times where fresh ideas are few and far between, I think Mickey does a great job.

February 20

Last night during the show at Madison Square Garden, Ed Bradley was an honorary CRB member on the tambourine. Hmm, wonder what Fingers played on the songs which he doesn't play harp on? [Thanks to Karie Parker]

February 19

The Church of Buffett, Orthodox notes the passing of a legend today. One of Jimmy's favorite teams is the Chicago Cubs, who yesterday lost their announcer. My guess is Harry Caray is now with Steve Goodman singing "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request." This will be the only update today in honor of Harry's voice who has kept us company and consoled us during our years of watching our beloved Cubbies lose.

February 18

The second part of Jimmy's 7th report from Cuba on the Pope's visit is at the Coconut Telegraph.

CRB member Fingers Taylor bought a house in Oxford, Michigan yesterday. [Thanks to Kevin Pollock]

The January archives are available now.

Don't forget Jimmy will be on ABC Friday night during Elmopalooza. He'll be singing Caribbean Amphibian with Kermit the Frog. For more info check out the December and January archives.

February 17

Jimmy seems to have gotten a proof from the printer for his new book, A Pirate Looks At 50. For more information on this book, look through the December 1997 archives. [Thanks to Bo Baber]

The new Jimmy Buffett trivia book 501 Questions and Answers For Parrot Heads by Thomas Ryan has been released. I don't plan on buying this book but if you own it and want to give me some feedback that's fine. [Thanks to Kathy Shedd]

CNN's latest poll question concerns pilgramages for musical reasons. If you want to promote Buffett-Margaritaville-Key West, you may do so at http://www.cnn.com/TRAVEL/mail/. [Thanks to Jess Williams]

The Question of the Week has been updated again. Look for more commentary later this week....

February 13

Grapevine says VH1 may be considering Jimmy Buffett to appear on the Storytellers series. This is a show where artists play in a small cozy atmosphere, and tell jokes and stories about their songs in between playing them. Other artists I've seen on it include James Taylor and Ray Davies (from the Kinks). It's an outstanding show and one that Jimmy would excel on. You may comment on this possibility by emailing VH1 and make sure you put the show Storytellers as your subject. [Thanks to Drew Warren!]

Some more insight into why Jimmy is playing the Nicolette Larson benefit on February 21 even though he never played in Steve Goodman's benefits. Drew Warren dug up all this good info for us: Nicolette married former CRB member and producer Russ Kunkel. The benefit concert's funds go to UCLA Children's Hospital. Russ has asked that memorial donations go to the MusiCares Foundation, c/o Dana Tomarken, 3402 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90405.

Jimmy's 7th report from Cuba on the Pope's visit is at the Coconut Telegraph. This is an excellent piece of literary work. If you haven't read any of the others, read this one. I was captured and thrust into the middle of the scene. Amazing. Now hand that man a pen for some good, creative, story-telling lyrics so we don't get another "Mental Floss."

February 11

New commentary available.

February 9

An earlier news tidbit had Fingers not finishing the rest of the winter tour. This is wrong, from Fingers himself. Fingers will finish the winter tour.

February 7

Jimmy's 5th report from Cuba on the Pope's visit is at the Coconut Telegraph.

Jimmy may show up at the Nicolette Larson benefit scheduled for later this month (February 20 or 21). Nice to see him go to a benefit show for her but not for Chicago Shorty.

I've added last night's setlist to the setlist archive. I have a slew of others to add, which I hope to get to next month, but for now the only updates I'll have time to make the setlist archive are from the new shows. As expected the show was a continuation of last year's Havana Daydreamin' tour.

Latest rumors for this year's tour include Denver, Dallas, and 2 shows in Houston... [Thanks to Marcy Delesandri]

Also there's talk of a private show given by Jimmy on February 3. Hmmm, I wasn't invited. Anyone know anything about it?

February 4

Jimmy's 4th installment of his trip to Cuba to cover the Pope's visit is available on the Coconut Telegraph.

February 3

I answered 3 Questions of the Week. There were many good ones, and I've saved the rest in case I ever have a slow week! Thanks to all who participated, and keep them coming...

February 1

! I have been tipped off that the new album mentioned on Jan. 28 is the much anticipated Don't Stop The Carnival album. However, it is NOT a cast recording as some as guessed, but that I might actually have been right in saying that it was Jimmy and the Coral Reefer Band recording the music from DSTC. A tentative release date is Tuesday, April 28. [Thanks to Eric Gulseth for confirming this!]

Clint Black was recently spotted on TNN wearing a Jimmy Buffett shirt. Clint and Jimmy go back aways. I have a tape with Clint and Jimmy doing "Son of a Son of a Sailor" together. [Thanks to Nancy the brown eyed girl!]

I've written this week's commentary.
