We've re-engineered the CoB,O to make it easier and more enjoyable for us (and hopefully you) to visit the site. For awhile, both the old and new pages will run simultaneously, however the "old style" CoB,O won't be updated. Eventually the "old style" will disappear...

You can visit the new CoB,O at http://www.cobo.org/index.php

March 1998

March 31

From St. Barth Magazine, Numero 149, March-April 98: [Thanks to John Royer and Bob O'Connor]

"Jimmy Buffett came to spend a short vacation in Saint-Barthelemy before beginning a tour in the southern Caribbean. There was a rumor that he would give a concert at Le Select, the bar that belongs to his friend Marius Stakelborough. Jimmy said that he would in fact give a concert for his friends in St. Barts when he comes back in two weeks time."

Results from Round 3 of the Jimmy Buffett Song Poll are available. Look for Round 5 to open on Wednesday or Thursday.

March 30

The Question of the Week has been updated.

March 29

You might remember an earlier news item about LPGA parrot head Patty Schremmer. Her husband Mike (also a parrot head) has contacted me:

We'd love to see any enthusiastic Parrot Head golf fans out there to cheer Jimmy's girl on at any tour event. And of course, concert attire is appropriate and encouraged. You can pull a copy of the LPGA schedule on the net at LPGA.com. We can arrange 10 - 15 tickets at the will call window per event for any Parrot Head who wants to come out to join Patty's Parrot Head Golf Team Fan Club.

If you're interested in cheering on a fellow parrot head, please email Mike. The only way I can see it getting any better is playing golf yourself!

March 28

I'd also like to thank everyone who has been sending me things. It's great fun to check the mail now-I've gotten everything from buttons to postcards to coasters to letters. I really do appreciate each and everything I've received. Kim and I have a good time going through it. You guys through your emails and snail mail make this whole thing worthwile. Thank you.

March 27

Ah, beautiful weather has hit Indiana. Yesterday I was able to hit the golf course.

Jimmy was picked for the most notable quote of the month in the March Issue of Boating magazine, pg 15. There's also a picture of him. Anyone know the quote? [Thanks to smakster01@aol.com]

March 25

You can buy group (18 or more) tickets for the June 27th show directly at the New World Music Theater box office phone number (708) 614-1616. Note that individual tickets are not available for purchase until after the June 25th show sells out or Monday, March 30.

Voting for Round 3 of the Jimmy Buffett songpoll is now open. There are some tough match-ups this time around. In several instances, there are perpetual favorites from the same album going head-to-head. Voting for Round 3 is only going to be open through this coming Sunday, March 29th, so be sure to get your votes in!

March 24

The Jimmy Buffett Song Poll round 2 results are available. Round 3 should open tomorrow.

Confirmed dates at Margaritaville Cafe-New Orleans around Jazzfest: PM Band 4/30, Club Trini 5/1, Fingers Taylor 5/2. Supposedly Margaritaville will release ticket information on April 2. [Thanks to Cindy Cherry]

The current issue of People has a review of the Elmopalooza CD: "but nothing can top the weirdo experience of hearing Kermit talking nonsense with Jimmy Buffett on a breezy confection called "Caribbean Amphibian." [Thanks to Joe McKibben]

Looks like Buffett's lawyers are at it again, this time going after a tie that seems to have been originally approved. For more information see Parrot Island.

March 22

The Question of the Week has been updated.

A WCBO reader recently spotted Jimmy in Anagada, BVI (3/16). Word is A Pirate Looks At 50 (Jimmy's new book) will be out in May... [Thanks to Steve Anderton]

A&E has a program called Live By Request. We're trying to mount an effort to get Jimmy on this show. Make your voice be heard on their feedback page.

March 21

The Church of Buffett, Orthodox, after careful consideration and research, has decided to enter into partnerships with two online retailers in order to better serve its readers. Both Amazon.com and CD Now offer excellent prices and selection, as well as outstanding customer service. I've ordered from both and have been very pleased. Amazon.com offers every book written by Jimmy, as well as those about him, and guitar tabs also! CD Now sells every CD and audio cassette, special 2-on-1 cassettes, Live By The Bay, Rancho Deluxe CD and videocassette, and more! If your Buffett collection is not complete, Buy Stuff!

By the time you read this the vast majority of tickets have been sold, and those without tickets are left either using scumbag ticket agencies or staying home and choosing their own setlist. Me, I didn't even try to get tickets. I'm not paying $60 per ticket for the same old show. And if the setlist changes radically enough to warrant dropping over $125 for a 2 hour concert, then I'll take my chances the week before the show and see if I can't dig up some seats.

Unfortunately due to bandwidth considerations, HomeCom the wonderful almighty supplier of a home for these pages, has had to remove the Conferences system. If you frequented the Conferences and are looking for a place to continue discussions, I recommend two options: 1) The Jimmy Buffett Listserv or 2) alt.fan.jimmy-buffett.

March 19

Jimmy Buffett is going after another restaurant for trademark violation. Now how did his lawyers find out about a Saratoga Springs, NY place? The restaurant's name: Margarita!ville Mexican and Cajun Restaurant. I tried to find a link to the AP report but I couldn't find it, and I'd rather not have the AP breathing down my neck for redistribution... [Thanks to Julie Parker]

Interesting rumor: Jimmy will be playing Margaritaville Cafe New Orleans on May 1, Greenidge-Utley on May 2, Fingers on May 3. Or here is another permutation: PM Band 4/30, Club Trini 5/1, then Jimmy at Jazzfest 5/2 (I believe this one more!). I'm working to confirm this info.

Merriweather tickets don't go on sale this weekend. Instead they go on sale March 28 through Protix.

March 18

The Orlando Arena, while divulging no dates yet, confirms they are
holding a spot for Jimmy Buffett this year.
March 16

Official tour dates are out. Only thing I had mucked up was Nissan in Virginia. Not too bad for an outsider!

The comic strip Robotman was about Jimmy today. Brett Champion was nice enough to scan this strip.

From Jeremy Coe:

I was riding into work this morning and listening to Howard Stern and he was talking about the Blockbuster awards and having Jean Claude Van Damme introduce Garth Brooks. When Garth Brooks was singing during the awards, Howard stopped the song and chirped in and said that the song Garth was singing was "like a really bad Jimmy Buffett song" He also said that Garth was ripping on JB by doing the song and Howard went into his own rendition of "Margaritaville"...it was pretty funny.

Now it's time for my personal commentary on Howard Stern. Coming from the home of nationally syndicated Bob & Tom in Indianapolis, Howard Stern is a insulting moron who has no respect for anyone. My opinion of him has nothing to do with the above-I just enjoy blasting Stern and Rush Limbaugh at every opportunity.

Make sure you read yesterday's news for some new pages...

March 15

Things to watch for in the next few of days:

  • Updated Question of the Week (expanded to 6 questions since I was unable to update it for a couple weeks)
  • New Commentary
  • More pages on JB's early daze
  • Special feature on Don't Stop the Carnival musical and Carnival CD

I'd also like to thank everyone who helped me gather tour dates. With your help we've been able to get the tour dates out days ahead of other sources, but then again we do that with everything :-) To everyone who helped or thanked me for doing this (and there's been over 50 thank you's the past week-tour time must make you feel good!) may you get the best seats possible, but please leave a couple front row center seats for Kim and me, just like last year!

March 14

KC Angel and I have come down with a serious case of March Madness Buffett-style. Check out the Jimmy Buffett Songpoll, round 2, where you vote for your favorite songs NCAA tourney style!

I have more tour info available...

March 12

Many new concert dates are available!

March 11

The results of round one can be found at the Jimmy Buffett Song Poll are now available. The results grid shows the original pairings with the total number of votes each song received as well as the percentage of the votes. The grids also show which songs progress to the next round. We have also provided lists of the top ten and bottom ten vote getters. Voting for Round Two will open on Thursday. Watch for the announcement!

March 10

In the current issue of Rolling Stone (783) there is a Brief History of Spring Break article. In an accompanying timeline, 1973 is highlighted as follows: Jimmy Buffett releases the spring-break anthem "Why Don't We Get Drunk (and Screw)," to long-term barroom popularity. [Thanks to csalt@aol.com]

Jimmy was mentioned in this week's Sports Illustrated's Golf Section: [Thanks to Al Greengold]

Last year the LPGA's MVB (Most Visible Bag) award went to a Crayola-yellow model with multihued headcovers. Now try something tastier: Patty Schremmer's bag features a Day-Glo margarita and Jimmy Buffett's long-lost shaker of salt.

Tour rookie Schremmer's bag promotes the woozy crooner's Margaritaville restaurants. She and her husband, Mike, an emergency room doctor, are "huge Parrotheads" say Patty, using the insiders term for hard-core Buffett fans. They met in 1995 when Patty, drained by a brutal mini-tour schedule, stumbled into a Sarasota, Fla. hospital where Mike was on duty. He treated her for exhaustion and dehydration, then asked her out. "I was surprised, since I had barf in my hair when we met," she says.

They shared a love for Buffett, and at a '96 gig he stopped the music to announce,"Patty, Mike has something to ask you." Thus they were engaged, and this year the singer came through with an endorsement deal. "I'm making Patty captain of the Parrothead golf team," says Buffett. He wasn't always so supportive. When he first invited them backstage, Buffett said, "I wanted to make sure you guys have normal lives and aren't total weirdos."

Normal? You can take that with a shaker of salt.

March 9

March 8

In the spirit of March Madness, a Buffett-related item courtesy of Mike DeGraba:

After a University of Maryland player committed a 3-point foul on a player from the University of North Carolina with 4 seconds to go in the ACC Tournament semi-final game, the Tarheel band played a rousing rendition of Jimmy's "Fool Button". The subsequent foul shots sent the game into overtime and UNC went on to win.

I've had to put the Question of the Week updates on hold until after this Thursday-it's test time for me and it's hard enough keeping up with the tour info, much less all the other goodies passed along to me. In choosing what I can publish on the web right now, the tour info wins. I'll put an extended version up in about a week to ten days...

March 7

The February archives are available.

More tour info is available...including a show that Little Feat will open... Virigina and Cincinnati dates.... Jimmy is the 7th most requested tour info on Pollstar. Why not just check here, I'm gonna know before them :-)

Jimmy grossed $1,112,024 for his two shows in Palm Beach Feb 6th and 7th, and came in 2nd for the month in the money race. I believe Yanni (of all people) had the #1 spot. [Thanks to Drew Warren]

Last night the public television station WUSF out of Tampa aired the segment of the new show Decor with Dina Merrill which showed Jimmy's West Palm Beach house. The station said it will rebroadcast the show on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00 A.M. To find out your local PBS affiliate-and possibly a show time for Decor in your area, go to their web page. More info on this show is available in the archives listed near the top of the page.

March 6

I have pretty solid tour dates for Great Woods and Meadows... just the contracts need to be signed.

March 5

Last night on the Tonight Show, Leno was giving the songs played while he was on hold with famous people. When calling Yeltsin, "Wasted away in Margaritaville" was what he heard-it's a joke see :-) [Thanks to Tom Liddle]

March 4

Tour dates have been updated....

Jimmy was seen at the Miami Heat's last two home games. [Thanks to Mslizza@aol.com]

Many people have written me about the deal to open a Margaritaville Store/Cafe in Universal Studios (Orlando). That deal is still on as far as I know, with an opening date of fall 1998.

As reported last Sunday, Elmopalooza was in fact released yesterday. Most Best Buy stores have it for less than $10. Well I bought the Kermit Unpigged CD for "Mr. Spaceman," maybe I'll pick this one up too for "Caribbean Amphibian."

From the music section of the April issue of Playboy: "According to BMI, Jimmy Buffett's 'Margaritaville' has been playing somewhere every minute since it was released 21 years ago."

March 3

The third Margaritaville Store will open up in one of my favorite cities, Charleston, South Carolina. The store will be located in the old Cafe Rainbow on King Street between Wentworth and Society streets. Charleston is "one of the cities on the East Coast that he likes. He enjoys visiting there and playing there," said Cindy Thompson, executive assistant to Buffett and his business partner Sunshine Smith. The store will open in a few months. [Thanks to GSPANGLER@InfoAve.Net]

As someone who has spent quite a few vacations on the Isle of Palms just a quick drive from Charleston, I'm pleased to see that this beautiful historic city is being recognized by Jimmy.

March 2

Rumor has it that there will be no Jones Beach, NY shows this year. Instead, one show at the old Garden States Art Center (now PNC BANK Pavillion) in Holmdel, NJ is a possibility. Also, back to back Camden shows on a Tuesday/Wednesday in August... [Thanks Alex]

KC Angel and I have come down with a serious case of March Madness Buffett-style. Check out the Jimmy Buffett Songpoll, where you vote for your favorite songs NCAA tourney style!
