With the exception of a few stadium "special" concerts, Buffett has decided against the stadium shows. Instead, he allowed SFX to pick the top 10 venues in the cities he tours the most for concerts in the late summer/early fall. Thus, for example, Buffett will play in DC just one time in early September at the Nissan Pavillion in Bristow, VA. There will be no shows at Merriweather for the first time in quite awhile. JB supposedly didn't want to go through the hassle of putting on the stadium shows deciding to play just once in cities where he would normally play two or three times per stop. A Corona rep in Phoenix mentioned there is a possibility of JB coming to Desert Sky in April; the rep's source at DS mentioned they're looking at a couple of dates... Thanks to Kate Lathrop Preliminary development plans have been approved for Pier Park in Panama City Beach, FL. Thanks to Charlie Budd Feb 13Jimmy is quoted in an article about the Napster division, Artists split on Napster decision. All of a sudden, theres not value there, because everyone can get what you have for free.'" Thanks to Chris Kraynak Jimmy has been nominated for the weekly "Zip-it!" award on Oklahoman.com. They choose the "biggest jerks from the world of sports and let [us], the fans, vote on who [we] think should just Zip-it!" Last night on the ESPY's, Jimmy was mentioned in Samuel L. Emeril responded: "I'm a huge music fan, so there would be people like Don Henley, Sammy Hagar, Billy Joel, and Jimmy Buffett. And of course, I'd like Julia Child there. I would also like to have met Escoffier or Careme, so I'd invite them too." Thanks to Marc Feldesman Feb 10The setlist for tonight's show is available. Those who went to the show can post reviews. It was nice to hear both "Tryin' To Reason" and "Island," two CoB,O favorites. New York parrotheads may have some good news: 2 August shows? Sounds like due to the past overwhelming demand for tickets as well as some "special guest" who is supposed to be supporting Jimmy, they have blocked out August 23 and 25. On sale is expected to be June 9 at 9AM. Main Jones Beach season goes onsale May 5 (not including Buffett show). A 4 ticket limit between the 2 shows is expected. Thanks to Matt However, Milwaukee area fans may have some bad news according to Eric Youngquist: Alpine Valley Music Theater has been bought by the SFX entertainment combine. We generally begin our group sales ticket buying efforts at this time of year. However, when we made our first round of calls last week, SFX told us that they have 1) discontinued group sales for Alpine Valley this year and 2) they do not anticipate a Buffett tour this summer. Betsy Brown sent in this update regarding tailgating parrotheads having fun and helping others: The Parrot Heads of Central Florida held a "Get Lei'd for Charity" PHundraiser during our tailgate party. Members of the club roller bladed, scootered, walked, and traveled on an ATV offering plastic leis for donations. While we lei'd a PHew of Orlando's PHinest for PHree along the way, by 4PM, we had reached our goal of $500 for Multiple Sclerosis. Our PHantastic Corona reps provided a great sign for our tailgate party location stating Parrot Heads of Central Florida Support Multiple Sclerosis Research, and we had people coming to us and putting money in our hands. We want to thank all of those 'nekkid necks' who donated for the cause. It was a great feeling for all involved, especially as one of our own members is in the early stages of MS. We definitely had the best tailgate party in the lot, with the junkatoo band visiting our location and we ended our event knowing we were 'partying with a purpose.' Former CRB member "Fingers" Taylor will be appearing at the Eastern Shore of Virginia Blue Crab Music Festival on July 28th, 2001. Also appearing will be The Sauce Boss and Clarence Carter. Thanks to Bo Baber Feb 9The setlist for last night's show is available. Those who went to the show can post reviews. Kevin Hooper passed this along: We passed thru Sangster International Airport (on the Montego Bay side of Jamaica) last Sunday and saw signs in the airport saying, "Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, coming soon." [Probably just a joke at the airport.] Picture of a parrothead trying to free JB at a ballgame. Thanks to Raleigh Warner Feb 8Don't forget that the Orlando show will be broadcast live tonight on RadioMargaritaville. JB crashed Mac's show last night, joining him for "If I Had a Boat" and 2 other tunes. JB was interviewed by Channel 2 (video clip available) in Buffett Mellow Over Heat Altercation. Feb 7JB made an appearance on The Today Show this morning (video available). Jimmy said he was misquoted by the NY Post as to what he said at the Heat-Knock game. The Post reported he said "bull****", but Jimmy laughed and said it was much worse than that, and that he did apologize to Cameron for such language. [not like he never heard it before] Matt Lauer said his punishment/community service should be to go to the Today Show this summer for another concert outside the studio. Jimmy said he's working on the summer dates now... ESPN reported that he thought it was his "inalienable right." The South Florida Sentinel reported Photographers seated near Buffett along the east baseline heard Buffett say, "Hey Joe, make the f------ call." at 50"? 54% of the Audience said Jimmy Buffett. He agreed and went on to leave with $32,000 when he got the $250,000 question wrong. Thanks to Jason Nicholson In the new issue of Latitudes & Attitudes, there is a picture of Buffett in the Letters to the Editor section, page 30, from a Captain Mike Worley. The Miami Herald has more on the JB-Miami Heat fiasco in Irked referee not singing to Buffett's tune. In the seventh race at Laurel Race Park, in Maryland, on Sunday, the winner was Hemisphere Dancer. Paid $3.00 to win, $2.10 to place and $2.10 to show. Post position #1. Thanks to Mark Lucy Feb 4Jimmy was removed from his front row seat at the Miami Heat-New York Knicks game today for taunting/yelling/cursing at the refs. He was moved to an upper level seat for the remainder of the game. You can read about the details on ABC's site or ESPN's. By the way, the Knicks beat the Heat, 103-100 in OT. Thanks to ALL who sent this in The Houston Chronicle faithful and dedicated Parrot Head Columnist Ken Hoffman strikes again. In Jimmy Buffett fans can test trivia skills , Ken writes details of a chance to win two "up close and personal" tickets to the Feb 15 concert on Feb 12, at a bookstore hosting a "Jimmy Buffett Triva Contest". Even the runner up prizes sound good, Buffett books, CDs, beer parties and PH stuff!!! Ken also asks a really good triva question: "In 1988, when Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band came to Houston and performed at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show, he changed the name of the band...for one night only. What was it.....?" Thanks to John Feb 3An anonymous source close to the Coral Reefer Band reports May to be full of Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays shows. June and July will be off months for JB and the CRB. Apparently, JB doesn't want to create and rehearse a new show and will stick with the previous format the rest of the year. The March issue of Men's Health contains a Spring 2001 Style guide in which they give the top 100 essentials of Springtime style. #49 is a stylistic nod to the great Hawaiian shirt entitled, appropriately, "Parrot-Head Chic." Thanks to Terry Kenney Feb 1Betsy Brown passed this along:
The Pilot Online covers the recent attempt to get Virginia license plates of a parrothead theme in Parrotheads In Paradise. Thanks to Richie Prado The web site for The Crudup Brother's album "Franktown Blues" have added mp3 clips; the songs have a heavy dose of "Fingers" Taylor on them. Michael Utley also appears on a few songs too. Thanks to Bo Baber You can listen to Jay Leno call Mac McAnally the "Brawny Paper Towel Guy." |
